Skoda and Volkswagen Shutdown Overview
As 2019 is coming to an end, the automotive sector is still suffering from the slowdown. Moreover, the sales are still suffering every month, but the conditions are a now a little better than the previous 6 months. Not only Skoda and Volkswagen are facing this, but also most companies like- Hyundai, Toyota, etc. However, analysts have told that the conditions may improve in 2020.
Now, Skoda and Volkswagen have decided to stop the production for the next 2 months plus 16 additional non-production days. Furthermore, this will give them time to plan about their future operations, launches and how they can increase their market share.
What is Volkswagen and Skoda planning to do now?
Now, Volkswagen and Skoda are planning to launch many products on the new MQB A0 IN platform. This platform is used for a variety of models ranging from Polo to the T-Cross worldwide. In India, the next-gen of Volkswagen and Skoda cars will most probably use the same.
Also, at the 2020 Auto Expo, both of them will be showcasing their upcoming SUVs. However, Volkswagen is also planning to launch the T-Cross by April 2020, ahead of its unveiling at the Auto Expo. As of Skoda, it will also showcase the Karoq SUV and would launch it in April 2020. Moreover, Skoda and Volkswagen have also figured that they want to become an SUV brand in India.
Volkswagen has further planned to reduce its annual production capacity by 7,000 cars. This will also lead in reduction of the the losses that the manufacturer is facing. The company has nearly 1 percent of the market share which is mainly contributed by the Volkswagen Polo and the Volkswagen Ameo.
