The Volvo has already launched the plug-in hybrid version of its baby SUV- the XC40. Moreover, the Volvo is the first in the world who has brought the electrified variant in each of its launched models. Furthermore, the XC40 also shares the CMA platform which is the first for any of the launched hybrid vehicle. However, the XC40 competes against the likes of the BMW X1, Mercedes GLA, etc.

Drive Modes in the Volvo XC40 Plug-in Hybrid

Coming to the drive modes in this car, there are total of three drive modes which are available with this SUV that is-

  • Hybrid,
  • Power
  • And pure.

The hybrid mode combines both the parts of the powertrain and makes it work efficiently, and the Power mode churns out maximum output from the both and the Pure mode solely depends on the electric motor of the vehicle.

Volvo XC40 Plug-in Hybrid Powertrain and Engine

The Volvo XC40 Plug-in hybrid comes with the T5 Twin engine petrol electric hybrid Powertrain. Moreover, it comes with a 1.5L, three cylinder petrol engine which develops over 180 bhp and gets paired to an electric motor which brings out over 82 bhp and the total power combined is 262 bhp.

Battery Pack and Mileage

The Volvo XC40 gets a battery pack of 10.7kWh which provides an all-electric driving range of over 46 kilometres.

The mileage figures are a whopping 59.6 kmpl. Moreover, the car can zip 0-100 km/h in just a time-span of 7.6 seconds.

How can we charge the electric motor of the Volvo XC40?

We can charge the electric motor of the Volvo XC40 with the 4.5 metres-three pin plug wire. However, the charging port is located at the nearside front wing. You can also get a type 2/ mode 3 fast charging cable which is also available as an option. Moreover, it just takes 2.5 hours for the high voltage battery of the car to be charged only if it’s done through a fast charging cable.

Indian-Spec Volvo XC40

The Indian spec Volvo XC40 comes with a sole 2.0-litre turbocharged, four cylinder diesel engine. It churns out over 190 [email protected] rpm and a peak torque of over [email protected] In addition, the transmission option includes an 8-speed conventional shift gearbox which also comes with a sports mode. Moreover, it also gets an engine start-stop option.

The base-spec variant of the Volvo XC40 is priced at Rs. 39.9 Lakhs in India and the top-spec variant comes with a price tag of Rs. 43.9 Lakhs (ex-showroom India).
