Mercedes-Benz GLC and GLE Plug-in Hybrids Overview
The Mercedes-Benz has revealed two hybrid variants of the Indian-Edition GLE SUV. Our main aim is to make the world greener, and thus we will see more of these Hybrid-Vehicles in the near future. Now, the Mercedes-Benz has introduced 2 of its Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles; the ‘GLC 350e’ along with the ‘GLE350de(d stands for diesel)’ both of which will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Mercedes-Benz GLC350e and GLE350de Battery Pack
There’s a big 31.2kWh battery pack which you’ll see in the boot, thus you get more compromised boot space. In addition, the battery pack also gives you a pure electric range of about 100 km. Moreover, the battery is capable of charging from 10% to 80% in just 20 minutes by using a DC charging station, it’s pretty fast. Now you can go for long trip by spending less time in charging your plug-in hybrid Mercedes. The Mercedes-Benz GLE350de also comes fitted with regenerative braking along with a 7.4kW on-board charger.
Which is better; Mercedes-Benz GLE or the GLC?
The Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class has the ability to seat up to seven passengers, while the GLC-Class is still stuck with a five-passenger layout. Talking about the Performance, you’ll get a better performance experience in the GLE-Class. Its base engine is rated to make over 255 horsepower, while the GLC-Class’ base engine is rated to make over 241 hp. With GLC’s smaller build and engine, it starts at a much lower price than the Mercedes-Benz GLE. However, it depends on what you want to go for.
2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC350e and GLE350de Engine
Talking about the Engine, the Mercedes-Benz GLC 350e is powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine which churns out over 320bhp and 700Nm of torque, and coupled with a 90kW electric motor. Moreover, its the same hybrid setup that is used in the bigger GLE. In addition, the GLC 350e also gets the 4Matic 4WD system, a pure electric range of around 39-43 kilometers and an electric only top speed of over 130 kph. The GLC 350e can do the 0-100 kph sprint in just 5.7 seconds which is one second faster than its elder sibling.
On the other hand, the Mercedes-Benz GLE350de is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine and produces a combined power output of 320 bhp and 700 Nm of peak torque. Moreover, the power is sent to all four wheels and thus it’s said as the ‘4Matic all-wheel-drive system’. The GLE350de can do 0-100 kph in just 6.8 seconds and 160 kph in electric power alone and the top-speed is limited to 210 kph. Read more by Carblog.

The current price of the Mercedes-Benz GLC is Rs. 56.75Lakhs and the GLE is Rs. 67.15Lakhs according to Carwale. But as these cars will be Plug-in Hybrid vehicles, we would see a larger price difference between the current models and between the upcoming plug-in hybrid models.
